People of Rote

Deserted white sand palm fringed beaches, uninhabited small islands, wonderful coral reefs, rolling hills, acacia palm, savanna and forests – Rote is truly paradise on earth.Frequently likened to The Maldives , Tahiti and Bali 20 years ago.

Rote was a well guarded secret but the word is quietly getting out for those in the know with the internet, Instagram etc. it was only a matter of time! Rote is a Christian island of Indonesia, part of the East Nusa Tenggara province of the Lesser Sunda Islands. Rote lies 500km (311 mil Northwest off the Australian coast and is on the Australian continental shelf and not in the ‘Ring of Fire’.

There are two distinct seasons; the wet season is during December to the end of February. Dry season is from March to November.  Rote has world class fishing, surfing, diving, snorkeling, sailing, kite surfing, spear fishing kayaking, paddle boarding and number of beautiful surrounding uninhabited offshore islands. The local people are wonderful, very friendly and welcoming.
